Course Aim:

One of the primary roles of a Dental Nurse is to provide chair side support to dental professionals and deliver a high level of patient care.

For this Standard, Dental Nurses may work in a variety of clinical environments as this Apprenticeship reflects all aspects of clinical responsibilities and duties of a dental nurse’s role.

Completion of this Standard will provide the apprentice with the relevant qualification to apply to the General Dental Council (GDC) for professional registration as a Dental Nurse.

This Apprenticeship Standard will include the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing as the mandatory qualification. With support from Crawley College, the Apprentice will develop and maintain examples of their work to meet qualification criteria within an electronic portfolio and will be required to pass 4 on line tests at Crawley College before reaching the gateway. Students will be able to re-sit each test once.

This Apprenticeship Standard will include the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing as the mandatory qualification. With support from Crawley College, you will develop and maintain examples of your work through on-programme training to meet qualification criteria within an electronic portfolio.

Your on-programme training will consist of the following elements:

  • Completion of the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing.
  • Full GDC approval (License to Practice in Dental Nursing)
  • Achievement of Level 2 maths and English.

After the completion of on-programme training and in consultation with your employer, your End Point Assessment (EPA) will be booked. This will usually happen at least 15 months into the Apprenticeship.

Your End Point Assessment will be made up of 2 separate elements and will be carried out by an Independent End Point Assessor:

  1. Synoptic Project
  2. Interview

Following the successful completion of your End Point Assessment you will be awarded a grade of pass or distinction.

Who Can Join ?

This Apprenticeship Standard is suitable for anyone employed in a role which will allow the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for the standard to be evidenced and met.

It is advisable that candidates have a minimum of 6 months chairside experience

Candidates must complete a basic skills assessment to confirm appropriate levels of literacy and numeracy prior to enrolment onto this Apprenticeship Standard.
