Phlebotomy Training

What are entry requirements?
You must be aged 18 or over
Have/attain Entry 3 in English Initial Assessment
What topics will you cover during study?

The courses you have to study during this training program may vary from one institution to another. However, there are a few courses that are required to be learned. These courses are also compulsory to be taught by colleges or medical schools. This is in order for the completion of this training course. These courses include

  • Lab techniques

  • Usage of medical equipment
Needle Technique

The whole purpose of learning this process is blood extraction. Therefore it is important to know how to work with needles of different sizes.

Record Keeping

It is important to keep a medical record of the patients at all times. This is for the doctors to study later onwards during the procedure or after it.

Medical safety

An important thing to learn to carry out all procedures is the basic safety rules. This is important so that no process goes wrong. It also ensures that the patient is not manhandled.

How will I be trained?

Training will be given using manakins in a skills laboratory environment and then the learner will be assessed for practical skills by a tutor and knowledge of the subject will be assessed by a Presidency College exam.  The learner will then undertake supervised practice to gain the Competency Certificate from the National Health Service (NHS) from OCN London a certificate of a Level 3 credit

What you will achieve once completed?

Phlebotomy graduates will be eligible to take the Phlebotomy Training course exam offered by the Open College Network London (OCN) and Competency Certificate from the National Health Service (NHS) from OCN London Certification Exam who pass the exams can earn the credits 

You can also gain work experience once completing the course to improve career prospects.
